The latest in plastic surgery
Texas is once again in the forefront of medical science. First it was heart transplants. Now something far more cutting edge! In early April, we saw an amazing ad in the Austin Chronicle, which is the local weekly paper, like the Boston Phoenix. It was an ad for a product that we had never heard of before, and never imagined reading about in quite such plain terms right there on the page, for "The Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Institute of San Antonio."
LADIES! Experience how good life can be!
New Cosmetic GYN Procedures
Our board-certified OB-GYN . . . can completely resculpt
and rejuvenate the vagina with a 1-hour laser procedure.
These new GYN Procedures help:
- Tighten the vagina after childbirth
- Improve stress urinary incontinence
- Enhance sexual gratification
She also performs
- Labia reduction for large/uneven labia minora
- Reconstruction of the Hymen
Etc., etc. No kidding.
And there's a billboard at Koenig Lane and Lamar Boulevard, with the opening even more explicit:
LADIES! Experience how good intercourse can be!
The other billboard, just off Burnet Road, is slightly more coy:
LADIES! Experience how good IT can be!
[caps and emphasis in the original]
Now we find confirmation in the New York Times, no less, that this is not just a local phenomenon anymore. An article, also attached, describes the growing popularity of this type of surgery. A picture attached to the article shows an ad, considerably less explicit than the local one, from the L.A. Times last month. New York: November. L.A.: October. But Austin: April and July. Ha! Take that! Austin is ahead of the curve, as ever.
Actually, I have to admit to having read some years ago of so-called "hymen rebirth" operations being performed on Japanese women, because of the hypocritically high value placed on female virginity in brides of high status families. But that was for a cultural purpose. This modern trend is simply more cosmetic surgery, just on another body part. Botox for the wrinkles. Collagen for the lips. Liposuction for the lumps. Face lifts, boob lifts, butt lifts, and now labia lifts.
To go along with the ads, for your further edification, we include also a page from their web site and a picture of one of the two billboards in Austin also advertising the same surgical services.
