Tales of weird experiences moving back to New England after a decade away. What might have seemed normal a dozen years ago, because we were used to it, somehow doesn't anymore.
We are having lunch at a sushi/Japanese place, inexpensive, fast, certainly a student hangout. I hear a young lady sitting next to us say to her companion, in exaggerated but not-quite-valley-girl-ese, "I haven't had Asian food in soooo long." Glancing over, I note that she appears to be of Japanese ancestry. Huh? California girl, I guess.
